Plastic Is Poison in Wayland MI

Chiropractic Wayland MI blocks

Plastic made products in Wayland MI have become a staple in our everyday lives and when you start to look around you will notice them everywhere and in every room of your house.  While plastic was an amazing advancement in our modern lives at one time, there is a lot about plastic made goods that we are not finding out until now.

What's Wrong with Plastic in Wayland MI?

There are many reasons why the plastic free or zero waste movement have grown over the past couple years and those mainly include the chemicals that plastics are made of, and their impact on our health along with the fact that plastic never really goes away.  When you "throw away" a plastic fork or water bottle for example, many people do not stop to think of the fact that that product will take thousands of years to decompose and will release its chemicals into the soil wherever it ends up.

Bisphenol-A or BPA is a chemical used to make plastics that imitates our sex hormone estrogen in the body.  When tested, 93% of Americans has measurable levels of BPA in their urine.  This endocrine disruptor mimics estrogen in both men and women and essentially confuses the body.  This can lead to breast and other cancers, early puberty, heart disease, birth defects, fertility, and reproductive issues as well. This chemical, BPA is also used in the lining of tin cans and on the thermal paper most receipts are made off.

Microplastics are the ground down by-product of whole plastic items.  Instead of disintegrating or breaking down into the soil, plastic gets ground down more like how sand is from larger stones.  These micro particles of plastic have been found in all brands of bottled water and in tap water across the world.  Microplastics are so small they are in the air we breathe, water we drink and the food we eat. They have been found in some less expected places as well such as beer, honey, salt, sugar, seafood, and alcohol.  It is now estimated that the average human consumes the equivalent of a credit cards worth of plastic per week, an amount of about 5 grams.  Science has yet to realize the extent all this plastic is going to have on our bodies in the future.

While plastic products produce an endless amount of waste and contribute to our body's toxicity, the only way to help is to avoid plastic products as much as possible.  Switching from plastic water bottles to glass or stainless steel, reusable straws, or grocery bags, ditching that Tupperware and grabbing a mason jar are simple daily ways to help reduce your contribution to the plastic pollution that is poisoning us and the planet.
